105.5 The Colorado Sound Presents Parker Millsap w/ Clay Rose (Night 2)

105.5 The Colorado Sound Presents Parker Millsap with Clay Rose on Wednesday, June 7 —  Parker Millsap quickly made a name for himself with his captivating live performances, soulful sound, and character-driven narratives. He’s had a string of successes including an appearance on CONAN, a performance with Elton John at the Apple Music Festival, an Austin City Limits taping & an Americana Music Association nomination for Album of the Year. He’s shared the stage with folks like Jason Isbell, Shovels & Rope, Patty Griffin, Houndmouth, and many others. Parker’s early releases showcased a mastery of acoustic folk rock, with their flourish for revelation and fiery dynamics. Be Here Instead, Millsap’s 2021 release produced by John Agnello, hinted at the wildness to come while exploring newer, more personal songwriting styles. Parker’s newest album, Wilderness Within You, is a natural step in Parker’s evolution which interweaves threads of his musical past and newer influences to gorgeous effect.- 16+, under 16 admitted with a ticketed parent or guardian

Amble w/ Joe Devito

Globe Hall Presents Amble with Joe Devito on Sunday, May 11 —  What a difference a year can make. In the summer of 2023, the Irish folk trio, Amble – Co Longford’s Ross McNerney,  Co Leitrim’s Robbie Cunningham and Co Sligo’s Oisin McCaffrey – had known each other for what the Irish call a ‘wet day’ when a phone call from Los Angeles changed their lives. They weren’t to know it then, but their day jobs (respectively, a secondary school teacher, a primary school teacher, and a data scientist) were soon to end. Amble’s jump from relative obscurity to signing to a major label isn’t the usual story, however. There were no canny strategies for world domination, no ruthless plans to undercut the opposition, no aching ambitions to match a billion streams. Rather, there was (and is) a ‘less is more’ approach within which the most important elements are the music and the wholesome enjoyment of playing it.  “I was teaching in Dublin for a couple of years,” says Robbie Cunningham (vocals/guitar). “I always wanted to get into music, but I never dared to do it on my own. Through social media, I knew of Oisin, who in his spare time was playing in pubs in Galway, but when he moved to Dublin I reached out to him and asked if he wanted to play some tunes together. The goal at that stage was to get into pubs, start playing music – some John Prine covers and stuff like that – and get a few free drinks out of it.” In the autumn of 2022, Robbie and Oisin (vocals/guitar) contacted Ross McNerney (guitar/mandolin), whose addition to the group configuration completed the puzzle. The morning after the first show Ross had played with his new friends was a pivotal one. “He messaged us the next day,” recalls Robbie, “telling us the music we had played was too good not to pursue.” From that day on, a more disciplined structure was applied: a band name, no more pub gigs, and a proper ticketing format for shows. “After that night playing with them and having listened to the songs they wrote,” says Ross, a more experienced musician than his new friends, “I felt that things needed to be done as correctly as possible.” The lads needn’t have been overly concerned about doing things the right or wrong way. If anything, their music ensured that the only proper method was the Amble method. Organic is a much-used word, but it applies here. “We didn’t sit down and think about creating an image or anything like that,” says Ross, “because we knew we were similar men who liked similar music. Our name, which took a few weeks to choose, signposts the music – it has a gentle flow – while we were at pains to make sure that everything, from the artwork design to the colours used, looked as professional as possible.” If you can design the artwork well enough, says Oisin, “you have an idea of what the music is going to be. Eighty percent of communication is non-verbal.” – All ages, ticketed guests under 16 admitted with ticketed guardian

NoSo w/ JayWood

Globe Hall Presents NoSo with JayWood on Monday, November 3 —   When Are You Leaving?, singer/songwriter/producer Baek Hwong’s second LP as NoSo, finds Hwong trading fantasy for reality. Previously, Hwong (they/he) sang about longing for “straight hips” and “simple limbs” in advance of their transition. Their debut Stay Proud of Me was an album-length daydream about what it would be like to fully embrace their transmasc identity, written mostly under quarantine restrictions. They released that record in 2022 to critical acclaim, with praise from NPR’s All Songs Considered, Paste, The Guardian, Notion, a performance at Tiny Desk and much more. But it’s one thing to wistfully yearn for transition, and another to actually do it. So what happens after? What happens when you get what you’ve always wanted, and it comes with a new set of problems? Even if you do everything in your power to feel more comfortable in your skin, it’s hard to tell who sees you and who doesn’t. When Are You Leaving? tenderly but directly explores the internal effects of those relationships with a witty, mature lens. The aching from their past work has itself moved into something more thoughtful and measured, showing a more fully-formed, complex Hwong in the process. Originating from Chicago before studying guitar and songwriting at the Thornton School of Music, and now based in Los Angeles, NoSo’s music deals with the alienation that comes at the intersection of his different identities. The stage name of NoSo itself comes from a question he’d get growing up in a largely white neighborhood (“North or South Korean?”) While he became known in LA for his talent with guitar, he ultimately decided to pursue writing his own deeply personal music. This is as personal as anything else he’s made. He clarifies about the album: “While it’s intense in terms of lyrical content at times, it’s still triumphant, but in a more grounded and realistic way.” The joy doesn’t come from daydreaming, but from tangible, smaller victories like leaving toxic relationships and painful situations. That title, When Are You Leaving? comes from the mental fortitude required to deal with or exit those dynamics altogether. The music gives those small successes the scale they deserve. The album glistens with spacious arrangements accompanied by the occasional saxophone and strings.   $1 of every purchase will go to LIFEBEAT – a program of The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation, mobilizes the music and entertainment industry to provide the resources and support needed to take control of your sexual health and prevent HIV.
