Goodnight, Texas w/ Sound of Honey

Globe Hall Presents Goodnight, Texas with Sound of Honey on Friday, March 14th.     Goodnight, Texas is a band you’ve almost certainly heard by accident somewhere. And now on second look, you’re deep in their catalog and they’re telling you stories about trapped coal miners and lovebird bank robbers. Banjos and mandolins twinkle. Now you’re seeing Avi Vinocur and Patrick Dyer Wolf and their band live and they’re swelling to a fever pitch, suddenly singing quiet harmonies off-mic, and then rocking out again. You’re talking to them at the merch table for a good while and you’re legitimately excited about their new album Signals because, more than ever before, it captures the vast dynamic range of the show and blends it with their expansive and intricate songwriting. Without doubt, the new album kicks. Lead single “RUNAWAYS” even features a blazing guest solo from none other than Metallica’s Kirk Hammett, who admired the band’s version of “Of Wolf and Man” on the 2022 covers album The Metallica Blacklist. But beyond the memorable sock-you-in-the-face riffs, GN, TX is reaching its roots deeper in every direction on Signals. Their first album-sized trip into the studio expands their sonic range, thanks to Oakland’s Ian and Jay Pellicci (Deerhoof, Tune-Yards). Stories of the Americana of yore bleed into the near past and present via DB Cooper and North Dakota oil field workers. Electric guitars pound like hammers, but the mandolins still twinkle like stars. Is that song a little tongue in cheek? Are those strings?    Further googling reveals that NME, Rolling Stone, No Depression and Consequence of Sound have recently featured the band, and that in 2023 they appeared at SXSW, Red Wing Roots and Austin City Limits Festival. They’ve toured with Larkin Poe, Shakey Graves, Trampled by Turtles, The Brothers Comatose, Donavon Frankenreiter, and John Craigie. Back in 2020, their song “The Railroad” was the opening montage theme for Tiger King, which had 53 million streams in its first week. Maybe that’s where you heard them in the first place. Or maybe it was the Coors Banquet commercial with Sam Elliott. Wait a minute, they have a quarter of a billion streams across platforms. Maybe it was at a bar or in your friend’s car, who knows. Still at the merch table at last call, you learn: Goodnight, Texas is a hamlet of 27 people and dozens of dogs, the exact mile-for-mile midpoint between co-founders Avi and Patrick’s homes in San Francisco and Chapel Hill (as the van drives). The band is hoping to make it back and play another show for their friends there in the near future.   All ages, ticketed guests under 16 ONLY ADMITTED WITH TICKETED GUARDIAN 21+ All sales are final. Stephen Day w/ Anna Vaus

Globe Hall Presents Stephen Day with Anna Vaus on Monday, March 24 — Stephen Day is a soul artist making a name for himself in the modern music landscape. Heavily influenced by Stevie Wonder, Glen Campbell, Frank Sinatra, and John Mayer, his music honors the vocal style of traditional soul and intertwines sonic elements reminiscent of pop and country. With over 140 million all-time streams to date, it’s evident that the Georgia native’s unique approach to storytelling is resonating with fans around the world.  Currently a Nashville resident, Day has been developing a  fan base since debuting his 2015 EP Undergrad Romance and the Moses in Me as a sophomore at Belmont University. Since then, he’s released a handful of projects, from a pandemic EP (Original Songs and Sound) to full length albums (Guess I’m Grown Now and The Shapes I’m In). However, his latest release, Gold Mine (2024), feels like a new beginning, as it’s the first project that fully encapsulates who Stephen Day is as an artist – one who is constantly evolving and taking risks while concurrently upholding the truest version of himself. The record shares the likeness of 60s country and 70s soul music, but with a modern approach to production.  “My ultimate goal for this record, and maybe every record I’ll ever make, is for the music to simultaneously feel like it has always existed, while also feeling fresh and exciting,” Day says. Although Day admits that he didn’t set out to make a concept album, the 13-song project is a sonically cohesive record from top to bottom, with the tracks intentionally interacting in a way that speaks to the larger narrative of trying to find, keep, and hold onto something real.    VIP upgrades will include: (1) admission ticket for the show, early access to the merch stand, (1) VIP tour laminate, (1) VIP exclusive poster signed by Stephen, meet and greet photo op with Stephen, and a one song acoustic performance. Diggin Dirt w/ Altaphonic

Globe Hall Presents Diggin Dirt with Altaphonic on Thursday, February 27th.   From behind the redwood curtain of Humboldt County, California, the seven piece funk-soul band Diggin Dirt has carved out a niche as a live party not to be missed. Shoveling their own path, Diggin Dirt has seen sustained growth over the past few years, with multiple national tours and festival stops at Jam Cruise, High Sierra, Hulaween, Same Same but Different, Live Oak, Cascade Equinox, Joshua Tree Music Festival and many more.  Per a 2024 Jam Cruise writer, “This was the soul music I grew up with in the ‘60s and ‘70s, but I confess I wasn’t expecting [Diggin Dirt] to be throwing it down this hard. This group is impossibly tight, and Zach Alder might be the best soul shouter I’ve ever heard, and I’ve heard a few.”  Their infectious sound is fueled by blazing horns, searing guitars and a relentlessly driving rhythm section, and tying it all together is the band’s frontman who launches the ensemble into rarefied air with his pipes, charisma and natural-born soul. With flashes of James Brown or Sly and the Family Stone, Otis Redding or Tower of Power, the band’s sound is both familiar and yet refreshingly original, layering psychedelic rock, Motown soul, afrobeat and even reggae atop a thick foundation of late-60s inspired funk. Joshua Ray Walker w/ Nate Bergman

Globe Hall Presents Joshua Ray Walker with Nate Bergman on Saturday, March 22nd.   In February of 2024, I began treatment for Stage 3B Colon Cancer. I had to clear my tour calendar, but with the help of my hometown fans, I was able to play sold out monthly solo shows at the Kessler Theater in Dallas, TX. It’s been an extremely difficult time, but these shows have helped me stay positive, creative, and kept my lights on! I’m building my strength, and the best way I can think to get ready for touring full-time again is to get back to the basics. I’ve missed the road so much, and I can’t think of a better way to start than to take this one man show I’ve been working on the road. I’ll be playing some of my favorite honky-tonks and listening rooms, and I hope you’ll join me for a night of stories and songs.  Thank you for your continued support. See ya soon, and ‘Thank You For Listening’!   All ages, ticketed guests under 16 ONLY ADMITTED WITH TICKETED GUARDIAN 21+ All sales are final.
