Barns Courtney – Unplugged Solo Sessions

Globe Hall Presents Barns Courtney – Unplugged Solo Sessions on Monday, October 27th.     Barns Courtney has lived through more industry upheaval than most artists survive — A&Rs disappearing, catalogs sold off, years stuck in dead-end contracts — yet he’s still standing. Signed at 19, reduced to sofa-surfing and odd jobs, he clawed his way back when Bradley Cooper hand-picked his voice for Burnt, just as his DIY single Glitter & Gold — recorded in an abandoned care home with filing cabinets for drums — quietly went platinum in the US. Since then, multiple Top 10 alt-radio hits and a reputation for chaotic, unmissable live shows have made him one of rock’s best-kept secrets. Now, a decade on and finally free on indie label Avenue A, Courtney isn’t making a comeback — he’s proving the music always connects, even when the machine fails.   All ages, ticketed guests under 16 ONLY ADMITTED WITH TICKETED GUARDIAN 21+ All sales are final. Wood Belly w/ Tonewood String Band + Nolen Ramminger

KGNU presents Wood Belly with Tonewood String Band and Nolen Ramminger on Friday, October 31st.     Honest, soulful, and bearing a sound all their own, Wood Belly sprouted from the roots of bluegrass to notch a unique home in the broader Americana scene and continues to captivate audiences across the country en route. With an unrelenting dedication to original songwriting, harmony singing, and artful arrangements, the quintet is forging a sound that is based in newgrass and flavored with alt-country, rock, and just enough jam to glue it all together.   Wood Belly established themselves as a staple of the Colorado and national acoustic music scene by winning the 2018 Telluride Bluegrass festival band competition and being nominated for an IBMA award. Bluegrass Today said “Even now, it’s safe to determine that they’re ones to watch…the freshness and vitality they bear elevates their standing and assures their status as instant contenders”. That freshness continues today as the band takes on a new shape. With a restructuring of the rhythm section, Wood Belly has opened up a world of dynamic range and dimension to be explored.   Adding a drummer was a bold move for a band rooted in Bluegrass tradition, but a creative and adaptive musician like Eric Boyd was an easy call. The band has always strived to play to the song and give each composition just what it needs, which is why Boyd is a perfect fit. He is well versed in a variety of styles and has quickly made his own imprint on the Wood Belly sound.   Singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Brennan Mackey had been on the band’s radar for a long time. Having already carved out a following in Denver and beyond with his own indie rock band King Cardinal, his writing, singing, and bass playing bring a fresh color palette to Wood Belly’s already distinguished sound.   Wood Belly released “Cicada” in November of 2023. The collection highlights the bands transition and rebirth, weaving together textures that represent the growth of the group and direction that the band is venturing. One of the longstanding pillars of Wood Belly is creative investment of all members and an unwavering dedication to creating a well-rounded, original sound. This pillar, presented in a new light, remains unbroken.   Since its formation, the band has played an ever-expanding list of great festivals including the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, Winter WonderGrass, Northwest String Summit, Charm City Bluegrass Festival, Palisade Bluegrass and Roots, Sol Grass, the Durango Bluegrass Meltdown, The Ogden Music Festival, Rhythms on the Rio, the Keystone Bluegrass and Beer Festival, Rapidgrass, Tico Time Bluegrass Festival, and many more.   Wood Belly has shared bills with The Infamous Stringdusters, Del McCoury Band, The Steeldrivers, Billy Strings, Molly Tuttle, The Lil’ Smokies, Front Country, Wood & Wire, Trout Steak Revival, Steel Wheels, and so many others.     All ages, ticketed guests under 16 ONLY ADMITTED WITH TICKETED GUARDIAN 21+ All sales are final. LAUNDRY DAY: The Time of Your Life Tour w/ WHATMORE

Globe Hall Presents LAUNDRY DAY: The Time of Your Life Tour with WHATMORE on Tuesday, October 28 —   LAUNDRY DAY was formed in 2016 at Beacon High School in New York City. When the pandemic hit, the boys stuck together to make their fourth record, “We Switched Bodies”. Meanwhile, their song “Friends” was making waves on TikTok after being used as the closing song in the Season 3 finale of the Netflix series, “On My Block”. Fast forward: the boys are self-proclaimed “Road Dogs,” who drive themselves around the U.S. in their sprinter van Since the start of 2024, the boys have leveled up their social media game, exponentially growing their audiences on Instagram and TikTok. Greg Freeman w/ Jawdropped + Clementine Was Right

Globe Hall Presents Greg Freeman with Jawdropped and Clementine Was Right on Saturday, December 13th.     Greg Freeman thrives on finding emotional catharsis and present-day resonance in the eccentric ugliness of the past. His songs all have a palpable sense of place thanks to his urgent delivery and evocative lyricism, which mines history for character-driven tales of violence, loss, and epiphany. On his sophomore LP Burnover, out August 22 via Canvasback Music/Transgressive Records, the Maryland-born, Burlington, Vermont-based artist uses the complicated backdrop of the Northeast to sing of grief, alienation, and the clarity that comes from opening up yourself to love. Explosive, unsettling, and undeniable, the 10 tracks here meld energetic indie rock with an ambling twang. It’s Freeman’s most adventurous and personal yet, cementing him as a singular songwriting talent.   When Freeman quietly released his debut LP I Looked Out in 2022, it had no PR campaign, label, or music industry promo, but still received raves from Stereogum and Uproxx. The word-of-mouth success of that release had Freeman on a relentless tour schedule. An itinerant lifestyle from ceaseless long drives made him think about home and his role in it. “I was trying to make an album about where I live, without specifically writing about myself and my immediate surroundings,” says Freeman. Driving around Vermont, he’d pass by the birthplaces of Joseph Smith, the founder of Mormonism, and Ethan Allen, the Revolutionary War figure and state icon. “I was drawn to these slightly tragic regional figures who helped me understand the culture of that area even today,” he says.   Burnover borrows its title from “The Burned-Over District,” a term used to describe parts of central and western New York that became hotbeds of fervent religious revival and utopian communities during the early 19th century. “There was this period where there’s all this psychedelic, religious movement coinciding with the territorial expansion,” says Freeman, citing Jack Kelly’s Heaven’s Ditch as well as Louise Glück, Grace Paley, Jim Thompson and Emily Dickinson’s writings as inspirations. On the album, there’s a sense that danger or revelation lurks behind every corner. It opens with the foreboding “Point and Shoot,” where he sings, “But I was lost like a little child / In a wilderness where the West was way too wild.” It’s a livewire track, with tangible momentum and an expansive arrangement.   When Freeman was touring I Looked Out, he revamped his live setup as a five-piece where he was the only guitar player. He took that mindset to Burnover, which he recorded with Benny Yurco, drummer Zack James (Dari Bay, Robber Robber) and Freeman’s live band, at Benny Yurco’s Little Jamaica Recordings in Burlington. “I wanted to write songs that were fun and challenging to play on guitar, and maybe had a little more movement,” he says.    Though Burnover is an album about feeling like an outsider and grappling with American myths to create or uncreate a sense of self, it also reflects Freeman’s firm community in his adopted home in Vermont. “I had a choice whether to make this record in Burlington or do it somewhere else,” he says. “I wanted my friends to play on it so the decision was obvious.” He ended up with a collection of songs that burst at the seams with raw immediacy and spark. “With this album, I really just wanted there to be as many things to hold onto as you can,” he says.   All ages, ticketed guests under 16 ONLY ADMITTED WITH TICKETED GUARDIAN 21+ All sales are final.
